Wedding Vow Wars

This year Dave and I celebrate our nine year wedding anniversary! As with most milestones, this year's celebration will be a little different. We won't be headed anywhere but our backyard!

As I took a trip down memory lane, I thought a lot about our vows, what we promised to one another, and whether we've stayed true those promises. The real-talk answer is: not always. Nine years of marriage is not an easy feat!

So in lieu of celebrating our dear friends' wedding then later having a weekend getaway for two, which is what we would have done if we weren't in the throes of COVID-19, I thought it'd be fun to bring you down memory lane to celebrate with us.

This, my friends, is Wedding Vow Wars where you decide who said it best! Below I will include the text of both of our vows and a video. Dave, I fear, might have the upper hand because I can't find my full-length video. But we shall see!

Leave us a comment below or on our IG account and let us know your pick for the winner of Wedding Vow Wars!

Dave –

Five plus years ago my life changed forever. Today, and for the rest of my life, you’ve made me the luckiest girl in the world. It has been an amazing journey that brought us here today and I am so, so happy to be standing here next to you. Anyone who knows us knows that we are polar opposites of each other. We are the true, real-life example of opposites attract: oil and vinegar, night and day, black and white. We may not always see eye to eye, but I want to thank you for balancing me out and for allowing me to see how beautiful the grey can be. Through the years you have become my very best friend, my confidant, my champion, and my mentor. You have been my partner in crime. And you have been a great father to our furry dog-children, despite Stewie’s constant desire to maul you. In short, you are the very best thing that has ever happened to me and I cannot wait to start the next chapter of our lives together. You have been beside me through the highs and lows of the last five years and I couldn’t imagine the next five, ten, or twenty plus years without you. In my heart, I truly believe that you are a better person than I can ever be. Because of this, you inspire me to grow as an individual. I joke very often that you could get a tree to talk to you if you wanted. But that is one of my most favorite things about you. This trait, in addition to your confidence, your ease, and your huge heart are undeniably the best things about you. Today we are joined together in a union of marriage. For all the days of our lives, I promise to inspire and encourage you, I promise to respect and cherish you, I promise to always be honest and faithful to you. And I promise from time to time to allow you your video game time. Additionally, I promise to never make you sell your Porsche again.

I’d like to close with a quote from a well known fictional character. Carrie Bradshaw said it best when she said, “The most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship you have is the one you have with yourself. If you can find someone to love the you that you love, well, that’s just fabulous.” Thank you for loving me just the way I am. I promise to spend the rest of my life loving you just the same. I love you.

I just want to say that you’re one of the most generous and caring people that I’ve ever known. Luckily for me, we’re a team now. And ever since I met you I’ve always felt like I’ve had someone in my camp. Through thick and thin, through all the ups and downs, you’ve always been there. Even today, you’re taking half the eyeballs off of me. You’re doing your part there. You’re making me less nervous. I say that in jest but, really, any obstacle that comes our way, you always pull your full share, more than your full share as we both know. You’re on top of everything. I always feel like I have a partner. I’m never left holding the bag with anything. As you know, you take the lead on almost everything. So that makes it easy for me to say that I really love you so much. And I’m so happy that we’re taking this huge step in our lives. I promise to you to do whatever it is that I can to make us stronger, to build our bond, and to pull my weight, so to speak. It’s not an easy thing for you to always be such a good person. You’ve never let me down, ever. You’ve never disappointed me. I don’t think you could ever disappoint me. I’m just so lucky to have you as my wife. I look forward to our future life together as husband and wife. I’ll always be there for you.
